Engineering Tips

After
compilation of Engineering we are not well knowledge about how to work at site,
which type of work is to do first, how to check the quality of work and
workmanship because we are fresher Civil engineer does many work and activities
at construction site and there are many works which are repetitive in nature.
So, some points, tips and tricks which a civil site engineer should most remember
while working on the site for faster calculations as well as quick solutions
and supervision to construction site problems.

The maintaining of an
adequate amount of moisture content and temperature in concrete at early ages
so that it can provide or give the properties the mixture was design to achieve.
Curing begins
immediately after RCC or PCC work and finishing so that the
concrete may develop
the desired strength and durability.
It is very important step in building
a structure. Because without curing the concrete doesn’t achieve its full
strength. So the strength of concrete is decreased without curing.

Curing
period is generally having minimum seven days for all member.

Following are few general points to remember
for civil site engineers to make the construction work easier while maintaining
quality of construction.

reinforcement is not less than 50d.

  • Lapping is
not allowed for the bars having diameters more than 36 mm.

  • Chair spacing maximum spacing is 3 feet.

  • For dowels
rod minimum of 12 mm diameter should be used.

  • Chairs bar
minimum of 12 mm diameter bars to be used.

  • Minimum
bars for square column is 4 No’s and 6 No’s for circular column.

  • Main bars
in the slabs shall not be less than 8 mm or 10 mm (Plain bars) and the
distributors not less than 8 mm and not more than 1/8 of slab thickness.

  • Minimum
thickness of slab is 125 mm.

  • Dimension
    tolerance for cubes +, – 2 mm.

  • Free fall
of concrete is allowed maximum to 1.50m.

  • Water
absorption of bricks should not be more than 15 % while shocked in fresh
    water for 24 hrs.

  • PH value
of the water should not be less than 6.

  • Brick should give metallic sound while struck with
    each other.
    .

  • In steel
reinforcement work, binding wire required is 8-10 kg per MT.
