Rate Analysis of Brickwork – Brick Work & Calculate Quantity and Cost

Rate Analysis of Brick Work
Rate Analysis of Brick work

Rateanalysis for Brick work  requires
estimation of materials for Brick work, i.e. quantity of cement, sand and bricks
required for 1m3 for various proportions, i.e., Brick work 1:3,
1:4, 1:6, 1:8  etc. So, let us first
calculate number of brick, quantity of cement and sand required for 1m3 Brick
work.

Most knowing point for rate analysis

When
you start doing rate analysis we must remember these points:

Item for rate analysis (Name of the Item i.e.
PCC, RCC, Brickwork etc. )

Specification (type of material, quality of
material etc.)

Unit (per Sqm, Cum, Rm etc.)

Labour

Material

Overhead (Profit for contractor)

Labour
for brickwork:

1)      Skilled
Labour

2)      Unskilled
Labour

Material
for brickwork:

1)      Cement

2)      Sand

3)      Bricks

Now calculating material

Suppose we have to no of brick and the volume of material
of the wall having a volume of the
1-meter cube
, the size of brick is going to use is 230mm ×220 mm ×55 mm and
mortar is 8 mm thick with
the ratio of 1: 4.  So we have to calculate these items which are given
below,

Calculate:

1.) The number of bricks

2.) The Volume of cement

3.) The Volume of sand

Known Data :

Volume (L x W x H) = 1
meter cube
.

Mortar thickness = 10 mm.

Mortar Ratio = 1:4

Size of brick = 230 mm ×110 mm ×55
mm.
 or (0.23 m x 0.11 m x 0.055 m).

Size of brick with mortar = 240
mm
× 120 mm× 65 mm. or (0.24 m x 0.12 m x 0.065
m).

This
calculation this in 2 steps, to make our calculation easier,

1. STEP: (BRICKS CALCULATION)

1.
Volume
of 1 brick = (0.
23 m x 0.11 m x 0.055 m) = 0.00139 meter cube.

2.
Volume
of 1 brick with mortar = (0.
24 m x 0.12 m x 0.065 m) = 0.001872 meter cube.

3.
No
of bricks in 1 cum = volume/volume of bricks with mortar = 1/0.001872 = 534.18 Bricks.

2. STEP: (MORTAR CALCULATION)

1.
Volume
covered by 534 bricks in 1 Cum Volume = (Bricks
number x Volume of 1 brick)
.

2.
Bricks
Volume  = 534 x 0.00139 = 0.743
meter cube
.

3.
Volume
(Total volume – volume of bricks).

4.
Mortar
volume = 1 – 0.743 = 0.257 meter cube.
(wet volume).

5.
Dry
Volume = 0.19 x 1.33 = 0.342
meter cube
(dry Volume).   Where (1.33 is a constant)

CEMENT:

Cement: = dry volume /Sum of Ratio.

= 0.342/5

=0.0684 cum

In  Bag, volume of one
bag cement is 0.0347 cum

= 0.0684 /0.0347   <1 bag = 50 kg>

1.97 bags= 2 bags

SAND:

Sand: = voume of cement X sand ratio

= (0.0684 x 4 )

= 0.2736 Cum

Summary :

BRICKS = 534 Nos

CEMENT = 1.97 bags.

SAND = 0.2736 Cum.

Note: These ratios may
change by changing the dimension of the mortar thickness or size of the bricks
as well as the mortar ratios 1: 4, 1: 6 etc.

Estimation of Labour and Tools for cement
mortar:

For
1m3 of Brickwork with  Ratio 1:4, unskilled labour is required for 1.76
man-days for mixing of mortar, for carrying of cement, sand and water. Skilled
labour is required for 1.20 man-day for placing, checking, of concrete on
required line level for 1cum.

Rate Analysis of Brickwork for Ratio of
mortar 1:4 :

Rate analysis of Brickwork requires
the rate of cement, sand multiplied with their respective quantity. Cost of
labour and tools and tackles for the brickwork  is also calculated. Cost of cement, sand,  labour and tools depend on local availability
and local rates.

When,
quantity of cement, sand, aggregate, labour and tools are multiplied by its
rates, and a contractors profit of 10-20% is assumed, the total sum of the
amount is taken as the cost of 1m3 of  brick, which is shown below
